The Only Qualification You Need To Help Someone Is, “The Desire To Do So.”

We all have friends, family or loved ones that have dealt with sadness, difficult times or depression. It can be so hard to know what to do for them.

If you have a loving heart filled with the desire to help you may want to try a few of these techniques:

  1. You have two ears use them to just listen,( not fix) when they are distraught. They need to purge vent and release; having someone willing to just listen without judging is very therapeutic.
  2. A warm caring hug gives security and comfort.
  3. Kind gestures like, fixing them a warm cup of coffee or soothing tea with a piece of chocolate to increase serotonin (feel good hormone) levels in the brain.
  4. Sending them encouraging meme’s that inspire them to feel better and keep going.
  5. Make them a CD of uplifting songs that will lift their spirits when they listen.
  6. Get them to walk with you or exercise to increase serotonin in the brain.
  7. Point out all of their blessings, sometimes they lose site of them when they are depressed.
  8. If you are aware that nothing anyone does is bringing him or her out of a deep depression, encourage them to seek professional help. Severely depressed people isolate themselves and push everyone away, that is when they need the most help and find it the hardest to ask.

The suggestions above were just ways to get you thinking, understand letting your loved one know you care is the most important element.

When someone you care about is going through a tough time, do not let them isolate themselves? Reach out and try some small gesture, let them know you are there for them, let them know you care!
